On September 17, 2025, a roundtable discussion on “Resocialization of Convicted Persons through Vocational Education in the Penitentiary System of the Republic of Tajikistan and Prison-EXPO” was held at the Serena Hotel in Dushanbe.

The event aimed to discuss the approved Program on Vocational Training and Employment of Convicted Persons and Persons Released from Serving Sentences for 2025–2030, as well as the Action Plan for 2025–2027. As part of the roundtable, participants were presented with the results of rehabilitation activities conducted in correctional institutions through art therapy sessions led by psychologists. These sessions were carried out in Correctional Institution 3/1 (Vahdat), Correctional Institution 3/4 (Dushanbe), Correctional Institution 3/8 (Nurek, women’s colony), and Correctional Institution 3/12 (Dushanbe, juvenile colony).

Following the roundtable, an exhibition was held in the garden of the Serena Hotel, showcasing products made by inmates in correctional institutions across the country, as well as artworks created during the art therapy sessions.

The roundtable resulted in a set of proposals and recommendations, which will serve as the basis for further steps to improve vocational training and social reintegration of convicted persons and those released from serving sentences.

The event was held within the framework of fostering and strengthening cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of the Strategy for Reforming the Penal Enforcement System of the Republic of Tajikistan until 2030.

The roundtable and exhibition were organized by the Main Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan, in partnership with the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan, the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), the Representation of the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) in Tajikistan, the Public Organization Human Rights Center, and the Public Foundation “Tashabbusi Huquqi”.
